Shree Guru Prapanna Ashram is an ancient, non-profit, spiritual organization and a part of Saraswata Gaudiya Vaishnava families that serves Sriman Mahaprabhu and Sri Sri Radha Krishna following the guidance of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada. It is a Gaudiya Vaishnava Matha that distributes the genuine, divine instructions of the Supreme Lord Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu through practising, preaching and publishing, in an attempt to foster the spiritual welfare of all conditioned souls. Our ashram was founded by Srila Patitpavan Goswami Thakura (Srila Prabhuji), one of the youngest disciples of Jagadguru Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Goswami Prabhupada. One of the primary driving forces behind the establishment of the ashram was fulfilling his spiritual master Srila Prabhupada’s unfulfilled desire of establishing an institution for the women devotees who are eager to lead dedicated lives.

The word, ‘Prapanna’ means ‘to surrender’ or ‘to take shelter’. The ashram was named so because our founder acharya submitted the ashram unto the lotus feet of his gurudeva, Srila Prabhupada – the illustrious founder of Sri Gaudiya Matha. We acknowledge that there are many other societies and Maths that share the same mission. What particularly distinguishes us is that Srila Prabhuji, who was brought up from the age of 7 years under the shelter and association of Srila Prabhupada, founded this ashram to give the women devotees, the opportunity to perform devotional service of Lord Sri Hari, rejecting any sort of narrow-mindedness and bodily discrimination against the women devotees. Grounded in the genuine Gaudiya Vaishnava philosophy, Srila Prabhuji established the authenticity of sannyasa and Deity worship of the women devotees, collecting evidences from the revealed scriptures. He personally trained several daughter-like women devotees in all devotional services ranging from fire sacrifice to kirtans, from Deity worship to publications.

The current president acharya of the institution is Gurumata Shrimati Jayshree Devi Goswamini, who was appointed by Srila Prabhuji through written wills, to continue his gurudeva’s mission of preserving and propagating the message and teachings of Srila Rupa Goswami, Srila Raghunath Das Goswami and the lineage of spiritual masters in their disciplic succession. Gurumata is adorning the seat of the acharya for the last 27 years since the divine disappearance pastime of her gurudeva and is untiringly serving towards the propagation of the congregational chanting and glorification of the Hare Krishna Mahamantra throughout Bengal.
